Week 2 Recaps: Blowout Central

It was blowout central in our league this week. None of the five games were decided by fewer than 29 points, something I've never seen before in any fantasy football league I've ever been in. As I mentioned yesterday my game was over by the second quarter of the 3 o'clock games and by the looks of the scoreboard, most everyone else's games were over by then too. Nevertheless, let's see what the hell happened this week that caused such a huge margin of victory in each game.

Wisconsin ArcticCats 108
Team Mustangs 57

That Security guard has four arms.
This matcup looked to be a great quarterback showdown between two of the best in the game, Rodgers vs. Brees. As it would turn out Brees didn't bring his A game to Cleveland as he only put up 15 points, while Rodgers picked apart the Jets defense from the second quarter on en route to a 27 point day. This was the start of a poor week for T and his Mustangs. The one lone player to put up double digit points for T besides Brees was Bobby Rainey, who the Mustangs ever so sneakily picked up Sunday afternoon after finding out that Doug Martin was a no go. The rest of the team flat out sucked. The total number of points T got from his three recievers was 15, to compare that to the ArcticCats who got 17 points from Randall Cobb alone and another 16 between Antonio Brown and Victor Cruz. Now you can start to see why this turned out to be a large margin of victory for Gunnar. Looking at the combined scores from the kickers and defense, Team Mustangs got 3 points (thanks to Blair Walsh's goose egg) compared to 28 points for Gunnar who got a pair of 14 point days from the Greg Hardy-less Panthers defense and Blair Walsh's counterpart Sunday Stephan Gostowski. The final area that hurt T was at tight end where he was surely expecting Vernon Davis to rack up some points agaisnt the kindergarden defense of Chicago, but Davis fell prone to the injury bug like so many others this week and put up only 3 points.

Rolling Meadows Mustangs 85
APeeing In The Wind 56

This was the only game of the weekend in which the winning team did not break a hundred points, but that didn't matter for the defending champ Zach as APeeing In The Wind (change that name) put up the lowest score of the weekend. Louie had solid games from Demaryuis Thomas and Julio Jones and that was it. Tom Brady only put up 9 points for Louie and even though Andrew Luck didn't have a great game last night he still put up double Brady's score for Zach. Looking at the lower part of the lineup, if you combine the tight end, defense, and kicker on both teams the numbers come out fairly even (Louie got 12 points from them, while Zach got 11.) The position that completley swung this game in Zach's favor was running back. With the recent news about Adrian Peterson, Louie was left without a solid running back, and that coupled with an injury early in the game to Knowshon Moreno lead to the beatdown. The Rolling Meadows Mustangs recieved 35 points from the combination of LeSean McCoy and Arian Foster compared to the 8 put up by Rashaad Jennings for Louie. Looking at the bench players, if Louie would've put in Jay Cutler instead of Brady as well as Julian Edelman in the flex and Joique Bell for Moreno, he would've won but none of those moves made sense on Sunday morning.

There was actually a Mark Ingram sighting this week
I'm Ball Murray 100
Rollin BLOUNTs, Drinkin FORTEs 57

Just like the first two recaps, the loser in this matchup only had two players reach double digit points. Those two were Cam Newton who had a decent game coming back from his injury and Matt Asiata (who was a late week pick up after the Peterson saga) scored the lone touchdown for the Vikings on Sunday on the way to his 13 point game. Those two guys had more than half the points for Tom as the rest of his team, besdies Julius Thomas who put up 9 points, decided to stay home and watch the Miss America padgent rather than play football on Sunday. In this game we also come across the only negative point getter of the week, the 49ers defense, who were playing well for the first half of thier game Sunday night before they shit the bed. On the other hand, John started the Redskins defense against the Jags and it payed off to the tune of 16 points. Another common theme in this game was an injury to a star player, in this case AJ Green, which only aided John's demolition of Tom's team this week.  John got 15 points from his recievers compared to only 4 combined for Tom. On top of everything else, John got big games from Mark Ingram (who is now done for a month) and Demarco Murray (who the Cowboys decided to actually use for an entire 4 quarter game for the first time ever). Looking at the bench, Tom had nobody that would've made this matchup any more of a competition. However, John sat a few players, including Brandon Marshall, who put up huge points and could've made this blowout even worse.

What is the guy in the background doing?
Show Me Them TD's 125
Baghdad Bombers 62

Like I've mentioned a few time now, this game was over early. Josh's team hasn't just lost one good starter to injury like the previous teams that lost this week, he lost 3 starters. Doug Martin was out before the game but Josh still went with the bold strategy of playing him, while RG3 broke again and Jamaal Charles got hurt in the first quarter. Charles has now put up a total of 2 points in 2 weeks, holy shit that sucks for Josh! He used his first round pick on a guy everyone thought would put up double digit points week in and week out. Instead, Charles has been ineffective and hurt and it looks as though he will be out next week as well unfortunelty. Now to the rest of the matchup, Josh had quite a few great performances coming from Gio Bernanrd (22), Mike Wallace (11) who I imagine Josh drafted solely because he has the same last name as him, and Emmanuel Sanders (10). Even Vinatieri  put up 10 points for Josh, but the injuries were too much to overcome in this matchup. My team decided to show up this week and ended up scoring the most points in our league this week. I recieved 20 or more points from Jimmy Graham (of course, 23), Jordy Nelson (26), and Alfred Morris (20). If your doing the math, those three players alone put up more than Josh's whole team. I did have one poor performer, Marques Colston, who decided not to do anything this week after fumbling the game away in week 1. In the benches section of this matchup, I sat Phillip Rivers who could've burried the Bombers even more with his big game agaisnt the Seahawks. Josh had the Bengals defense on the bench who would've helped him a little but not nearly enough to make this a contest.

Nike shirt guy is ready for this shit!
Kalamazoo Red Hawks 115
Multiple Scoregasms 74

To wrap up the week of blowouts, Jason put up the most points of any losing team this week but still lost by a ton. Starting at quarterback, Multiple Scoregasms had a good first half going with Kaepernick before he decided to turn the ball over 4 times and ruin his fantasy day. He only scored 11 points for Jason where as on the Red Hawk's side, there was Peyton Manning who (only?) put up 21 points. Jason did have a couple other strong performers in Dez Bryant (16) and the Cardinals D/ST (17) who made a mockery of the continuing joke that is the New York Giants. Chris's defense (Patriots D/ST) shockingly put up even more points than that as they shut down the Vikings offense while getting 4 picks and scoring a touchdown on a blocked field goal. The Red Hawk's also started Delanie Walker who put up a very suprising 20 point day for the Titans and Justin Tucker who kicked roughly 80 field goals on Thursday night against the Steelers. These two positions were where Jason really lost this game because his tight end and kicker only combined for 15 points compared to the 34 put up by Walker and Tucker. The common theme of an injury that has taken atleast one player from each of the losing teams this week took Desean Jackson away from Jason. It does look like Jackson may be able to play next week so going forward the Scoregasms should be alright. Looking at the benches there were no changes Jason could have made that would've won him this game. On Chris's side, Darren Sporles and his 23 points were sitting on the bench which shows just how deep the Red Hawk's roster was this week.
