Backyard Superstars (64-48-8) 9
MWP Masters (49-67-4) 2
Tie 1 (RBI, 17)
When John paid $50 for Jacoby Ellsbury, I definitely thought it was an over pay. I still think it was..depending on the week. Ellsbury has been extremely hot or extremely cold. This week, he was extremely hot, hitting 414/452/586 with 2R 3RBI and 3SB. Unfortunately for John. 5 of his other starters hit under .230 (including Yadier Molina's 167/231/167. That appearance on the May batting average leader board seems very long ago right now) and didnt steal 3 more bases combined. Kyler, on the other hand, had Daniel Murphy (414/414/586 6R 2RBI 1SB), Martin Prado (440/464/480 4R 2RBI 1SB) and my nonimee for biggest surprise of the first half of the season by a Brewer catcher, Jonathon Lucroy (480/481/800 8R 5RBI 1SB). The only player not to steal a base on the Superstars was Justin Upton. When Martin Prado steals a base and Daniel Murphy hits 414 against you in the same week, its probably not your week. On the hill, John won 2 of the 6 categories largely thanks to John Lackey's performance last night. Lackey's quality start pushed John ahead in that category while his 2 runs over 8 innings solidified John's win in ERA. Last night's game also helped Kyler. When David Ortiz's homer allowed the Sawks to bring in Koji Uehara to close out the game, Kyler picked up a SV/H to break the tie in that category and pulled his WHIP down so that he beat John there 1.10 to 1.11. I promise, I do not pay that close of attention to the matchups throughout the week. Kyler texted me this morning and told me...he does pay that close attention.
Merry Tyler's Moor Traveling Allstars (56-56-8) 7
Dusty's Nustys (64-50-6) 4
Tie 1 (SV/H, 5)
Another week, another matchup where Dusty wins avg/obp/slg and runs, but this week his pitching completely abandoned him and allowed Tyler to win 5 of the 6 pitching categories. Tulo finished the week 440/462/880 with 6R and 5RBI to lead the Nustys, but he was countered by Alex Gordon's 421/607/895 7R 5RBI week. Welcome to the season Alex Gordon. Remember when Gordon was released and claimed on the waiver wire for $3? Since the day he was picked up (5/6), Gordon has hit 336/438/627 with 21R 19RBI and 4SB. That seems to have worked out ok for Tyler. On the pitching side, Scott Kazmir struck out 17 over 2 quality starts to pick up some of the slack for Cory Kluber's off game for Tyler, but the real story was Dusty's staff's awfulness. Chris Tillman (45.00 ERA, 9.00 WHIP) unsuccessfully tried to match Garrett Richards for worst start of the season and Rex Brothers (32.00 ERA, 4.80 WHIP) turned in one of the worst RP weeks of the season.
Huckleberries (47-67-6) 6
Les Moles (46-69-5) 5
Tie 1 (W, 2)
Kevin's remade hitting lineup is starting to pay dividends as he won 5 of the 6 hitting categories this week behind Adrian Beltre (478/458/957 6R 8RBI -- and the difficult higher BA than OBP trick), Adam Jones (440/462/840 5R 8RBI) and 3 stolen bases from Hanley Ramirez (bringing his season total to 8). Outside of Coco Crisp (500/600/917), Tom's hitter struggled mightily this week, particularly normally steady hands Josh Donaldson (154/214/385) and Adrian Gonzalez (043/120/043). On the mound, Tom had Zach Greinke (3.86 ERA 1.71WHIP), Jon Lester (10.38 ERA 3.00 WHIP), Aaron Harang (4.50 ERA 1.67 WHIP) and Tony Cingrani (4.76 ERA, 1.55 WHIP) all turn in WHIPS over 1.50, but Les Moles still won 4 of the pitching categories because KP had Kyle Lohse, RA Dickey, AJ Burnett, Trever Rosenthal and Joe Nathan all combine for 11 strikeouts and all turn in WHIPs over 2.00.
