First of all, lets look at the hitting. The top 3 hitters in this match up were:
Troy Tulowitzki (DN)- .429/.519/1.048
David Wright (MBHB)- .429/.478/.762
Jayson Werth (MBHB)- .333/.429/.389
You'd clap for yourself too if you had a mullet like that. |
Obviously Tulo's amazing season continued this week as his 8 RBI's and Miguel Cabrera's 9 RBI's single-handedly won that category for Dusty. Also, Tulo's batting average carried the rest of the team to a victory despite Mike Trout's best efforts to sabotage the team this week with an average of .111. Just to make sure everyone know how great Tulo's week was, he also destroyed the Hitless Bastards in the slugging percentage category.
When it comes to the other two top hitters of the week, who both belong to the Hitless Bastards, they too had solid weeks but were brought down by a man with a .111 batting average. I'm looking at you Jason Heyward. Also, because of his rooting interest, the Bastards started Emilo Bonifocio who did more hurt to the team than good. He brought down all three batting percentages and only had 2 RBI's and a stolen base to contribute.
Now looking at pitching, here are the 3 best performances:
Phil Hughes (DN)-1W, 3 K's, .000 ERA, 1.14 WHIP
Madison Bumgarner (MBHB)- 1W, 8 K's, 1.13 ERA, .63 WHIP
Tyler Clippard (MBHB)- .000 ERA, .60 WHIP, 3 H/S
Look who I pissed off this week! |
Hughes' 7 inning performance against Detroit on Friday night was a big reason why Dusty's Nustys won both the ERA category and the WHIP category in this match up. Here's a crazy fact: the top top pitchers above who each got one win, were the only pitchers to get a win in this match up. That is how poor the pitching was this week for these two teams. Even all-world, former Mr. Kate Upton, Justin Verlander couldn't manage a win this week, and he was playing the Twins! Bumgarner was the lone winner on the Hitless Bastards this week as he posted 8 strong innings and had 1 altercation with the great Yasiel Puig, against the Dodger's on Friday night. Though the cocky Cuban hit a jack off of Bumgarner, it was the only run he allowed in the game and one of only 4 hits.
Feel the burn boys! |
Tyler Clippard made it on this list for two reasons, he got attributed the most saves/holds by any relief pitcher in this match up, and the starting pitching outside the top top sucked as I mentioned earlier but felt the need to bring up one more time. Unfortunately for The Bastard's, Clippard's 3 holds were the only holds/saves recorded by any of the relievers on the team. Of these three holds, two of them were cheap, as Clippard pitched only 1/3 of an inning in them. Either way justice prevailed as Dusty's Nustys won the category thanks to Cody Allen and Glenn Perkins, who actually pitched whole innings to earn their saves/holds.
What does this all mean?
Todd Helton approves this message |
I guess this match up proved a few things. First of all, Troy Tulowitzki is apparently on a pace to team up with Charlie Blackmon and lead the Rockies back to the World Series this year. Secondly, the pick up of early season stat sheet-stuffers, Emilo Bonifocio and Martin Perez, is turning out about the way you would've imagined...bad. And finally, this means that both teams are in need of better outings by their pitchers and better run support for them, so they can have more than 1 freakin win in an entire week.
