I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, with its glorious weather and extra day off from responsibility. It is somewhat funny to me that we all get a day off from responsibility to celebrate people who are taking on more responsibility than most of us will every understand. I wont get into a rant on the military or the people who serve other than to say that I am glad they do it, because I dont think that I could.
Week 8's matchups proved to be the most lopsided, as a whole, of the season to date, with only 1 matchup being decided by fewer than 4 wins. This week was like Alexander vs. Hercules in Robot Jox. They were mostly one sided, using questionable tactics and ended with the death of one of the managers. Wait...that cant be right, at least the mostly one sided part is right. To be honest, I actually just wanted to post something about Robot Jox on the blog. It's one of those fantastically awful movies from your childhood that you remember being the coolest thing in the world when you were a kid, but then you try to rewatch it and you cant believe how unbelievably terrible it is. Kinda like David Ortiz this week (1 for 21!!!! ..048/130/048...0 runs, 0 RBI!).
Where last week, Ortiz would have fit right in with much of the rest of the league, this week he is the outlier. There was an outburst of offense across the league this week, with 10 players finishing with slugging percentages above .826 led by Chris Davis's 1.158 (before he went on paternity leave) and Nelson Cruz's 1.136. Yes both of those guys play for the Baltimore Orioles..and yet somehow the Orioles managed to 3-3 last week against Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
With this being a short week (work week, not actual time. One cannot change the length of time a week takes, though I have definitely thought about trying to do it), this will be an abridged version of the recaps. Well...I say that now, but we will see what ends up happening by the time I get finished.
