League Rules

Hey everyone-
Since I'm getting old, Jim is older, and Bob is turning to dust before our eyes, I thought that it would be a good idea to put the rules down in one place so we don't have to try to remember all the time.

General Format
2 Divisions - 1) Bone Thugs and 2) Harmony
<<new 2021>> divisions will be split into top 5 finishers from previous regular season in one division and bottom 5 in the other.  Top division will be decided by which division previous season's champ played in.

Playoffs are made up as follows:
1 Seed) Best record in the league
2 Seed) Division Winner from the division without the #1 seed
Seeds 3-6) Next best 4 records, regardless of division

Seeds 1 and 2 get first round byes.
3 vs 6
4 vs 5

Each week (Monday through Sunday), there are a combination of 12 wins/losses/ties for each match up.
Scoring categories for hitters:
Runs, RBIs, SBs, AVG, OBP, SLG

Scoring categories for pitchers:
W, Ks, Quality Starts, ERA, WHIP, Saves+Holds

Rosters are made up of 26 active players, 3 DL spots and 2 NA spots.
In order to qualify for a DL spot, a player must be on the DL.
To qualify for a NA spot, a player must be in the minor leagues or not on a major league team, like Jhonathon Solano.

Rosters are set weekly, with the changes locking at the start of the first game on Monday.
Starting positions are C, 1b, 2b, 3b, SS, OF (x3), UTIL, SP (x5), RP (x5)
There are no limits or restrictions on the positions of bench players.

Draft - Initial
The draft will be in auction format with each team beginning with $400.
Teams can trade and/or acquire up to $75 of draft money for the next seasons draft.  That will be added or deducted from the starting amount.

The order will be the order of the previous season's finish, with the reigning league champion nominating the first player.

Player Acquisitions
Trades are allowed and encouraged.  All trades will be allowed unless there is intent to stack a particular team at the detriment of the other team in the trade.  If there is league member who believes this to be the intent in a trade, that member should contact the commish.  Commish will hold a vote amongst the 8 owners not included in the trade.   If 6 believe the trade to be in bad faith, then the trade will be reversed.

Players who are not on teams will be on waivers at all times.  Each team will have $100 Free Agent Acquisition Bucks (FAAB) to spend over the course of the year.  To pick up a free agent, a bid must be placed in excess of $1.  The team with the highest bid for that player on Wednesday night/Thursday morning will be awarded the player and the bid will be removed from the FAAB account.   If you bid but are not awarded the player, no money is removed.   If someone bids on and wins a player for $0, there will be a penalty applied.  The first infraction is $10 is removed from FAAB and the player's keeper salary becomes $10.  The second infraction is $25 removed from FAAB and the player's salary becomes $25.  The third infraction is forfeiture of all remaining FAAB and the removal of the player from the team, with no replacement provided.  If the penalty for the infraction is more than the team has left in FAAB, the team will lose the player and the remaining money in the FAAB.  There should be no reason this should ever happen.

Keepers
Each team will keep exactly 11 players, with their salaries remaining from the previous season.  For players who were won at auction, their auction salary remains the same.  For players acquired via the waiver wire, the amount of FAAB spent will become their salary.

Keeper selections for the upcoming season are due by 12:01 AM, 2 weeks before the auction. - For 2022, this will be 15 March 22.

Once keepers are locked, the total salary of the 11 players is deducted from $400 and that becomes each team's available money for that season's auction.  Two of the 11 players will be designated as the "Unchallengeable Keepers" and non playoff teams from the previous season will be awarded an additional unchallengeable keeper - this does not need to be declared until the beginning of the auction.

Draft - Challenging Keepers
During the auction, a team may, instead of nominating a player for bid, decide to challenge one of the challengeable keepers from another team.  If that is the case, the player will challenge a player and issue a specific dollar amount for that player's new salary.  No other teams can be involved in this selection.  If the current team matches the dollar figure, the current team keeps the player, but the player's salary changes to match the bid.  If the current team declines to match, the player is removed from the current team, his current salary is added back into the budget, and the player is moved to the new team at the bid price.

Each team may issue 2 challenges during an auction and each team may be challenged 3 times.
Players may be challenged more than once in the same auction.

<<NEW 2020>> Each team can only lose 2 players at auction.  If a team loses players on each of the first 2 challenges levied against them, the third challenge against them will be made null.

<<NEW 2021>> When a team is challenged and loses a player, that team is awarded an additional protected keeper.
