Week 18 Waivers

It has been too long since that glorious picture has graced this blog.  As we race past 3150 all time page views and add a couple more countries (Poland and Vietnam have recently joined the party) to our map of world domination, it is important to look back and where we started and all that has been talked about.  And really...striving to get tacos is the baseline for everything else.  It is almost like when you meet someone (for me it's my wife) and after a time you cant really remember what your life was like before they were in it even through you know that it was there.  I know that this blog was here before "We Get Tacos," but I dont even want to remember.

TRADE!!!!!

BySs gets SP Tim Hudson and 3b Pablo Sandoval
ZAttack gets SP Shelby Miller and 1b/3b Lonnie Chisenhall

Rumor has it that this move originally included a SS (Jimmy Rollins?) going from BySs to ZAttack so that Zach could have someone to put into the lineup for Chris Owings, who has not played in a game since June 25th yet has remained in the starting lineup for each and every week since then, but that Zach wanted no part in removing Owings from the lineup.  Where I come from we call this the Dusty Strategery...its a bold move Cotton.  As far as the actual trade goes, Chisenhall and Sandoval are very similar in their season long stat lines, but Chisenhall's is much more clustered, with a large portion of the goodness coming in a small portion of the season (like donuts that are supposed to be filled but only get the good stuff on the inside in part of the donut...bastards).  Sandoval has hit over .300 in May, June, July and so far in August (small sample, with it being only the 5th day of the month).  Hudson has been the better pitcher so far this year, but he is also 2937 years old and thought Jesus was a hippy after having a couple cocktails with him one night (and yes, Jesus Christ could hit a curveball).  Miller, while being the lesser pitcher this season, has a much brighter future.  But I count at least 5 SPs on Zach's team I would rather have than Miller (not taking price into account), so I am not sure he is in the keeper plans.  If he isnt, this trade becomes sort of a major win for Kyler because he is getting the better, more consistent players for now.  Put this one in the books.  BySs > ZAttack
2b,3b,OF Josh Harrison - $10 - KIODL - Drop RP/Fastenal Employee Shae Simmons
John better be careful.  If WOberton hears that John was disloyal and dropped a Fastenal employee from his team, there might be hell to pay...or at least a worker's comp claim.  Harrison has been one of the hottest hitters in the league over the past couple of weeks, which makes sense because I recently dropped him.  $10 is a bit of a steep price to pay, but John has been fairly frugal with his FAABs and he has it to play with.  The multi-position eligibility is a great bonus, but I cannot imagine Harrison continuing to hit like this.  If nothing else, his hot streak makes it so that we wont look back at the end of the year and say he was the worst all star selection in 10 years.

SP/RP Jenrry Mejia - $5 - KIODL - Drop SP/RP Carlos Martinez
So much for the mini-Pedro comparison that Carlos Martinez was drawing in the playoffs last season and earlier this year.  Regular size Pedro never would have been sent to the minors by his team so they could bring up Shane Robinson.  Hell, Pedro wouldnt have been sent down some his team could have Shane Mosley (watch out Zimmer...RIP).  Jenrry Mejia cannot spell his name right, and it bothers me.  He also has a wicked fastball that somehow moves too much to control (34 walks in 71 innings) but also is extremely hittable (73 hits in 71 innings), yet he strikes out over a batter an inning (74).  He must be a Met...up...a Met.

SP Kyle Hendricks - $4 - Bobs ATers - Drop SP Robert Stephenson
Oh Bobby Steve, we hardly knew ye.  Stephenson was a long range play from the start for Bob, seeing as how he was in Double A ball at the start of the year, and it appears that Bob finally tired of waiting for him to figure out his control issues.  He also has a 5-8 record with a 4.29 ERA in the Southern League and hes walked almost 5 batters per 9 innings.  He might yet prove to be Big League material, but its probably a good time to cut bait on this season.  Hendricks is a homer pick up.  He has been great over his first few starts, but nothing in his history suggests that he much more than a #4 or #5 starter on a Big League team, and there isnt a great deal of prescedent for guys jumping from that to #1/2 caliber pitchers.

SS Jean Segura - $3 - ZAttack - Drop SP Matt Cain
Cain is down for the year and hasnt thrown like keeper material this year...good riddence.  Segura is the reason Zach wanted nothing to do with Rollins, though, to be honest, I am not sure I would want anything to do with Segura.  Since June 1, Segura is 37 for 185 (.200) with 4 2bs, 4 2bs and 2 HRs and 6 SBs.  Those arent pretty numbers.

OF Wil Myers - $3 - MBHB - Drop OF Kold Calhoun
On again, off again.  On again, off again.  This time its for good , I swear.  Calhoun was never more than a place holder until I could find something better.  With Goldschmidt going down, Calhoun isnt the type of player who can pick up the across the board slack, even hitting at the front of that loaded Angel lineup.  Myers, however, is the type of player who can contribute across the board when healthy.  And, turns out, he is starting a rehab assignment this week.  Myers was one of the best power hitting prospects to come along in years and was the AL Rookie of the Year last year.  I'm not gonna lie, I feel like this is a steal at $3.

SP/RP Danny Duffy - $2 - BySs - Drop 1b Eric Hosmer
Hosmer was experiencing a massive hot streak right up until he got Ernesto Frieri'ed by Jon Lester back in July (he just re-aggravated it bad enough for them to recheck it and find the break).  Sadly, this seems to mark the end of Kyler's hoarding of 1bmen (Billy Butler is available, Kyler...do it...you know you want to).  Danny Duffy (not to be confused with Patrick Duffy) has been a solid starter for the Royals this year with great ratios, though he doesnt add a whole lot in terms of wins or strikeouts.  Somehow he is 5-10 on the season with a 2.42 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.  He should be suing the Royals offense for neglect.

1b/3b Chris Johnson - $1 - Bobs Aters - Drop OF Khris Davis
Krush has been picked up and dropped almost as much as Kole Calhoun has been.  Though Davis has been productive when he has played, the Brewers trade for Gerrardo Parra seems to have squeezed Davis out of a bunch of PT; we cant start someone who doesnt start for his own team, it just wouldnt make sense.  Johnson is having a decent year, though much of his production came against the Cubs in games 2 and 3 of a 3 game set at Wrigley where he hit 3 of his 8 HRs and drove in 7 of his 48 RBI.  He has a solid spot in the Bravo lineup and Bob does need a backup 1b now that he dealt Rizzo for an OFer, so he could have done worse than Johnson.

Baby Warren Giancarlo - $$$$$ - UCCMA - Drop Sleep/Sanity
The best addition of the week.
