Week 15 MSSSMRMoW - Lots of Crooked Numbers

The Epic Tie between MBHB and Les Moles is the
Mike Shaw Subaru Super Mo Replay Matchup of the Week 14.

Usually I hate putting my team in the Mike Shaw Subaru Super Mo Replay Matchup of the Week because I already know what happened in the matchup, and it isnt as fun for me to dig into it as it is when it comes to other contests.  There is also some reason about it not being about me, but that one slips my mind right now.  This week, when I was flipping through them matchups, I could help but noticed all the shiny, big, crooked numbers that were in the box score of this matchup...and I couldnt pass it up.  Check out the line score:

Team R RBI SB AVG OBP SLG W K ERA WHIP QS SV+H Score
MB Hitless Bastards 46 52 4 0.290 0.357 0.516 7 92 3.33 1.15 8 8 6
Lester The Molesters 32 42 10 0.244 0.296 0.419 9 105 2.46 1.13 12 5 6

I am going to start with the pitching because 197 STRIKEOUTS between the 2 teams for the week.  Heres the list of guys who struck out more than 10 batters.

Name IP K
Felix Hernandez 15 18
Madison Bumgarner 19.33 15
Cole Hamels 20.67 21
Jake McGee 5.33 10
Garrett Richards 15 15
Zack Greinke 12.67 11
David Price 16 14
Jon Lester 15 20
Jake Arrieta 14.33 14
Tanner Roark 14 11
Jesse Chavez 11.67 15

That is 11 guys out of the 20 who played during the week.  Part of is has to do with both Tom and I employing the SP,RP strategy but a big part of it is that our respective teams had unbelievable weeks this week.  Tom's team registered 15 starts while MBHB had 11 (thanks Taijuan Walker). All those SPs for Tom led to victories in Wins and Ks and QSs and Tom was able to pull out ERA and WHIP thanks, in large part, to David Price (0.00 ERA, 0.63 WHIP) and Lester (0.60, 0.87) and struggles in those categories from Bumgarner (5.12, 1.50) Justin Verlander (6.57, 1.14) and Zach Britton (11.57, 2.57).

The hitting was almost the exact opposite, as the Hitless Bastards were anything but.  As a general guideline, a week that sees a hitter put up 5+ runs, 5+ RBI and a .300+ AVG, .390+ OBP and .500+ SLG is a fantasticly well rounded week.  Typically there are a few of those each week spread across all of the teams.  This week, MBHB had 4.  Paul Goldschmidt (323/462/677 6R 7RBI), Jose Reyes (381/409/500 5R 7RBI 1SB), Jayson Werth (314/415/771 10R 11RBI), and Jason Heyward (350/395/500 9R 7RBI 2 SB) all crossed that threshold this week with Brian Dozier chipping in 8R and 6RBI and George Springer adding 5R and 5RBI despite a 185/267/519 slash and a few missed games with a knee issue.

For Les Moles, Andrew McCutchen came close, adding 9R, 8 RBI and 3 SB to a 282/370/692 slash line.  Tom struggled to keep up with the Hitless Ones pace, in part due to Ben Revere and his 167/167/167 0R 0RBI week (he was a mid week switch and Tom caught the wrong week).

This leaves us with only 7 weeks until the playoffs start.  While Bob's team looks like a virtual lock and MBHB, ZAttack, Dusty and Kyler are in good shape for spots 2-5, the 6th spot is completely up for grabs.   Currently John holds it, but every one else is in the running.  Kevin, who is currently in 10th (last) is only about 2.5 games behind John with 3 teams between them.  We are setting up for a wildly entertaining finish to the season.
