Week 1 Results

When I woke up yesterday, I was still feeling the carry-over of excitement from Sunday and the start of the NFL regular Season. I was also looking forward to one of my favorite Monday events of the season, the week 1 Monday night double header. Unfortunately, once I turned on ESPN Radio at work yesterday morning my excitement faded with the horrific video release of Ray Rice punching his fiance, now wife. I decided to watch the video, as many of you probably did, and I found myself speechless. I don't know what I was expecting to see but it certainly wasn't that. I was imagining that there was at least some kind of struggle between the two of them or that Rice's wife was swinging at him (which still in no way gives him the right to hit her) but none of that was true.  Instead, what I saw was a coward who hit his fiance with a left hook knocking her into the railing in the elevator and out cold. First things first, this could have killed her, which makes this even worse. Secondly, Ray Rice looked to be the aggressor the entire time and then showed no remorse as he tried to drag his unconscious future wife out of the elevator. It is my understanding that the police had this footage so I don't know how Rice is not in jail right now, even if his wife doesn't want to press charges. I was glad to see him get cut by the Ravens and I hope that nobody ever picks him up again (although this probably won't happen).

With this situation, there have been somethings that have been going through my head since this all came out yesterday, which is how the hell did the NFL only suspend him 2 games and how did they not see this video? The NFL has a ton of private investigators and a ton of money. If they are being truthful in saying that this is the first time they've seen this video, than the investigators should be fired because they did an awful job. The incident happened in a casino elevator where you know there are going to be cameras. The mere fact that TMZ was able to get the video and put it on the web makes it hard for me to believe that the NFL could't pay to get it. On the flip side, if the NFL did see it and are lying about it than that opens up another huge can of worms. If this proves to be the case I think there needs to be some major house cleaning in the governing body of the league including commissioner Roger Godell.  Also. after all this has gone down it will interesting to see how the cases of both defensive lineman Ray Mcdonald of the 49ers and Greg Hardy of the Panthers end up. I read a couple articles about the Hardy incident and if what is being said is true, his assault of his girlfriend is, if possible, worse than what Rice did (though there is no video to show the public).

So after listening to countless analysts talk about the video all day long I was finally able to come home and watch some football, even if it had lost most of it's original excitement. The Giants/ Lions game was alright but nothing really great happened outside of megatron's performance (which I will bitterly get to in a bit). The second game of the double header was a much better game that came down to the wire in the final minutes resulting in a one point Cardinals win. So now with week 1 of the season officially in the books, it's time to take a look at how each match-up turned out.

Team Mustangs 97
Show Me Them TD's 88

Here's where I talk about Calvin Johnson. Going into this game I had what I thought to be a decent lead over T at 19 points. The only player left on either side was Calvin Johnson, for him, who surpassed the 19 point mark in the first half. I shall never feel any lead is safe again when going up against Megatron. Believe it or not Calvin Johnson wasn't the high scorer in this match-up, instead it was Matt Ryan who put up 30 points for me in an impressive 37-34 overtime victory over the Saints. Outside of Matty Ice, C.J. Spiller was the only other player on my roster to put up double digit points when he put up 12 points against Chicago. On the Mustangs' side, Drew Brees only put up half the amount of points as Matt Ryan did in their duel, but that joined with a 16 point day from Vernon Davis, a 13 point game from Blair Walsh, and the big day for the previously mentioned Megatron was too much for my team to overcome. Taking a quick look at the benches there were no players I could've started that would have gave me enough points to beat T. However, he did sit Lamar Miller who had 10 points against the New England thanks in large part to an early touchdown reception. If he would've played Miller over Toby Gerhart, Stevan Ridley, or the flex spot, he could've beat me by even more. Not that it really matters.

Rollin BLOUNTs, Drinkin FORTEs 128
Kalamazoo Red Hawks 83

Tom's effort in the mud run clearly paid off this week
This game had a plethera of high scoring players, yet it still ended up being the biggest blowout in this league for week 1. Taking a look at the Red Hawks, they got a nice 22 point performance from Peyton Manning, whcich may actually be a little low for him, and a 24 point game from Le'Veon Bell who ironicly had to play against his doobie brother. Outside of those two, the rest of the starting lineup might has well of been takin it to the streets becasue they only scored in the single digits each. Dr. Panda's Red Hawks did however sit 3 running backs who all scored 12 points or more a piece, but even with them in he still would have lost by a lot. Also, the Red Hawks have Ray Rice on their bench so I would expect Dr. Panda to send him to China Grove via a waiver wire pick up coming this week. On the winning side of this blowout, Tom's team put up incredable numbers. He had 5 of his 9 starters score atleast 14 points, with two of them (Carson Palmer and Julius Thomas) scoring in the 20's. there were two RBDF players on the bench who were listening to the music and scoring in the double digits. They were Martellus Bennett and the 49ers defense (I didn't realize Tom has both the Seahawks defense and the 49ers defense...wow). Looking ahead, RBDF looks like a very strong team, because not only did they put up a ton of points week 1 but they also have a deep bench with guys like Cam Newton, Andre Ellington, and the previously mentioned Bennett and 49ers D/st that can come in handy in a couple weeks when the bye weeks start, but thats what a fool believes.

Rolling Meadows Mustangs 78
Baghdad Bombers 54

He is not the answer Josh.
This game was filled with guys who had terrible performances in week 1. The fact that the Bombers highest scorers only put up 10 points (Gio Bernard and Rob Gronkowski) tell you a lot about how bad of a week it was for him. The real dissapointment on Josh's team came from the combination of Jamaal Charles, Doug Martin, and Keenan Allen who comibned for a total of 5 points. In fact, the Bombers 7 bench players outscored their starters by a score of 68-54. Obviously. there was a combination of bench players, like Ben Roethislberger and Greg Jennings, that could have started that woud've givin the Bombers the victory in this match-up.  When it comes to Zach's Mustangs, he got solid games from Andrew Luck and Roddy White. LeSean McCoy also put up 11 but I think he needs to get about 16 points to be considered a solid week since he is the number 1 pick in the draft. The Mustangs also had the worst performance of the week by a player or in this case a position. Zach started the Rams D/ST who got destroyed by the Vikings and ended up with a -3 line. With the way that defense looked, Zach may want to consider picking up a new defense so he's not giving points back to his opponent every week. There was only one Mustang who was one the bench that scored more than the starter at hat postion (Carlos Hyde).

Matt Bryant being Matt Bryant
I'm Ball Murray 132
Wisconsin ArcticCats 91

Both of these two teams had good weeks which lead to the highest scoring game of the week. Starting with the ArcticCats, they got huge games from Marshawn Lynch (24 points) and Antonio Brown (17 points) and a solid performance from Russell Wilson as well. In fact five of Gunnar's starters scored in the double digits, but the problem was the four that didn't scored a combined 13 points. Still the ArtcicCats ran into some bad luck as they would've beat six of the other teams this week. John's team flat went off this weekend. The only poor performance came from the Chiefs D/ST against the Titans on Sunday. Out of the other eight starters who had strong performances, Matthew Stafford's 29 points and Matt Bryant's 18 were the two highest on the team. The crazy thing is that when you look at John's bench he had five players who scored in double digits there as well, which totaled up to 74 points sitting on the bench. Randall Cobb was the one player on the bench for Gunnar that scored in double digits but it wouldn't have been nearly enough to catch I'm Ball Murray's great total score.

These guys saved the win for Jason.
Multiple Scoregasms 66
APeeing In The Wind 64

First of all, both of these teams would have been beaten by everyone in the league except for Josh's Baghdad Bombers. Even with the lack of scoring, this game was a nailbitter all the way to the end of the Cardinals/ Chargers game last night. Micheal Floyd's 11 points against last nights game got APeeing In The Wind within two points and need the Chragers to put up a few more points to win the matchup. Instead, the Cardinals defense stopped the Chargers to hold on and win and hold on to 3 points for Jason's team. Part of the reason that these two teamshad low scores was becuase both of these teams had running backs get hurt in there games and finish with only 4 points (Jason: Eddie Lacy, Louies: Ben Tate). Likewise, each teams best performer was it's quarterback who each scored 17 points (Jason: Colin Kapernick, Louie: Jay Cutler). The biggest diffence in points at a certain positon in the match-up came at the tight end spot. Greg Olson scored 14 points for Multiple Scorgasms, where as Jordan Reed gave APeeing In The Wind nothing.Taking a look at the bench it is clear that this match-up could have went a lot of different ways. Both teams had high scoring players on there bench leading to both teams' bench outscoring their starting lineup. Just for shits and giggles Loiues bench beat Jason's 80-72.

So after week 1, the defending champion of the league got off to a 1-0 start and two of the three new teams won there games as well. Tomorow is waiver wire day so I'll be posting about who gets picked up and dropped, and then before you know it week 2 will start on Thursday again.
