Week 3 recaps: Tommy Kelly and His 8 Teammates

This week had some closer games than last week, with one incredibly close finish. We also saw Louie and Josh become the final two teams to get their first win of the season, and one team barely hold on to their undefeated record. There were also a couple of interesting debuts like the rookies I talked about yesterday and Kirk Cousins' season debut. So without further a due, on to the recaps!

Julio is laughing at my team.

This week I had to play Louie in two different fantasy leagues, the result was the same in both, Julio Jones destroyed my entire team. I did start Matt Ryan in this game which helped take away some of the sting of Julio Jones' big Thursday night, as he put up 23 fantasy points while throwing to Julio. However, the rest of my team was a big sack of shit this weekend. My second best player was Marques Colston who caught a late touchdown against the Vikings for only his second catch, giving me 8 points. I also received my first negative score of the year somehow as the Texans scored a solid -1 against an awful Giants team that usually turns the ball over a ton and doesn't score much. Looking at Louie's players, he could have sat Julio Jones (28 points) and Rashaad Jennings (23) and he still would've beat me 60-59, that's how bad of a week it was for me. Louie's addition of Knile Davis came up big as he put up 17 points in Jamaal Charles' absence, and Louie got an average performance from Jay Cutler last night (16). Louie's team does have a concern at tight end where Kyle Rudolph got hurt and will be out for about 6 weeks which means Louie will be all over the tight ends on the waiver wire this week. Outside of that MAJD BTSY didn't have any really bad performances like I did with Mason Crosby scoring 1 lonely point and CJ Spiller only putting up 5. There was no way to make this a contest even if I were to have started some bench players. this was going to be a colossal blowout no matter what. In fact, Louie's starting lineup outscored my entire team (starters and bench players) 111-104. So long story short, my team was terrible this week, like really really terrible.

Kirk Cousins to the rescue!
Baghdad Bombers  109
Wisconsin ArciticCats  74

Josh finally got his first win of the season this week with a new quarterback at the helm. The first two weeks Josh started RG3, but after his injury the Bombers picked up his back-up Kirk Cousins, who had a very good game. Cousins put up 27 points in his season debut to go along with a 16 point performance from Gio Bernard (who is no longer a member of this team, we will get to that tomorrow) and a 14 point day from Emmanuel Sanders. On the other side of this game, Gunnar got great performances from Marshawn Lynch (24) and Antonio Brown (21) but had three guys score 0 or worse (the Panthers D/ST put up a negative 6 spot). These 3 terrible scores culminated in a rather large blowout for Josh. Looking at the specialists on the teams, Josh's D/St and kickers outscored Gunnar's 28-4, which shows just another reason why the Bombers ran away with this game. The ArtcicCats had a few guys on their bench including Russel Wilson and Victor Cruz who would have made this game close but it still wouldn't have been enough. Even if Gunnar started his best 9 he would have lost 109-107. Josh did have a solid 16 point performance from Fred Jackson on the bench but it was not needed.

Tom's so sad he lost. (Everytime you lose this picture will be posted)
Team Mustangs 93
Smokin Blounts N Drinkin Fortes 57

Tom's top scorer was Cam Newton at 12 points...that's all you really need to know. He had one other player, Pierre Thomas, put up more than 7 points while three player put up 4 points or less. Smokin Blounts N Drinkin Fortes had a horrible week en route to putting up the lowest score this week. Tom now owns 2 of the 4 worst scores in the league so far this year (he scored 57 points last week too), way to go man! He sat three players that scored in the double digits, yet none of them would have put up enough points to beat the Mustangs. T's Mustangs didn't really have any great performances (besides maybe the 19 put up by Brees), instead he got a solid performance from every player. Taking a look at the Mustangs' scores without Brees, they all range between 6 -12 points. That's impressive considering that every team normally has at least one dud a week. The bench for T looks basically the same way, with most players having a sold day. Looking ahead to next week, bye weeks start in the NFL which will take away 1 starter (Julius Thomas) and 4 bench players from Tom's team. Unless he makes a bunch of moves this week in the waiver wire, Tom won't have a ton of options to change up his lineup against the ArcticCats next week. This may lead him to his third straight 57 point outing (I'm really hoping for this).

Kalamazoo Red Hawks  92
I'm Ball Murray  66

Dr. Panda should thank his lucky stars for this win. The fact that Mathew Stafford, Brandon Marshall, and Montee Ball combined for only 4 points for John is unbelievable and was the main reason why the Red Hawks won this match-up. Also, if I'm Ball Murray would have started Nick Foles (26 points) over Stafford, this game would have been a nail bitter. Nevertheless, Chris handed John his first loss of the season thanks to big games from Pierre Garcon (19) and Le'veon Bell (15) to go along with solid weeks from Peyton Manning (20) and Justin Tucker (11). Dr. Panda made all the right decisions on who to start this week as nobody on his bench scored in the double digits. For John, Jermy Maclin and DeMarco Murray tried to make up for the void left by Stafford and Marshall by putting up a total of 38 points. However, it was too much of a gap to make up. These two teams are now tied with T and his Mustangs for first place in the West Division. However with John's loss, their is only one undefeated team left, the defending Champ.

Bold strategy, we see it payed off. (the number 9 guy blocked the kick)
Rolling Meadows Mustangs  78
Multiple Scoregasms 77

As I said Zach is the lone undefeated team remaining, but it didn't come without a little help. This game was obviously the closest game of the season and it nearly swung in Jason favor if it wasn't for Tommy Kelly blocking a Phil Dawson field goal early in the 4th quarter. Not only is it bad enough that Dawson's kick was blocked, but the Cardinals only had 9 men on the field and the niners still let a guy through. Outside of this play, there were a ton of situations where Jason could have made up the one point. One other one I would like to point out is that Dez Bryant finished with 89 yards giving him only 8 fantasy points. If only he could've stretched and got one more yard on a catch we would be looking at the second tie in the history of the league (the other happened a couple years ago, I think the Baghdad Bombers were involved). Anyway, I found it very interesting that not only were these teams only one point off of each other, but they were also the middle of the pack teams in the league this week (5th and 6th highest scores). Now looking at the rosters, Andrew Luck had a monster day against the Jaguars (of course) putting up 31 points and Micheal Crabtree put up a 14 spot against the Cardinals to help propel Zach. If you did the math that does in fact mean that those two guys outscored the rest of the team 45-33. Looking at Jason's team, it looks like he had many good performances this week as five players scored in double digits. So how did he lose? Well the other 4 players on his roster combined for 8 points total. The two biggest disappointments for Jason this week were Eddie Lacy (1), who could've been replaced by Jermey Hill or Chris Johnson to get the win, and Andre Johnson (2), who could've been replaced by any of the four receivers on the Scoregasms bench for the win. Looking at Zach's roster, he could have had a few more points if he would've started a couple different people on his bench, but who gives a fuck he won.
