Week 4 Recaps: Bad Defense week

This week saw the highest score of the year and the two lowest scores of the year. There was also one close game that somehow turned out to be a win for Tom. The theme I found this week is that there were multiple defenses that scored atleast -4 or worse this week. Are we getting to the point in fantasy football where it may be better to leave the defense spot empty rather than to play one? No, but for some of these teams it wouldn't be a bad option. Anyways, on to the recaps.

Rolling Meadows Mustangs  88
DeMarco's reaction when he saw the rest of John's scores
I'm Ball Murray  52

If it wasn't for the Red Hawk's debacle (which I'll get to in a bit) John's score would have been the worst in the first four weeks of the season. This is probably carma for his arch nemesis Tom scoring 57 points two weeks in a row. The vodoo gods must have decided to even things out a bit. John's team  had one great performance, Demarco Murray (26), and 8 medium to extremely shitty performances. The stinkiest of the turds were the Bears D/ST (-4), who he just picked up a half hour before the game, Nick Foles (3), and Shonn Greene (1). This team without Murray scored a total of 36 points, I don't even know how to describe that. Its just awful, plain and simple. In fact, the four guys that actually played yesterday that were on I'm Ball Murray's bench outscored his starting lineup 53-52. Zach's Mustangs on the other hand, got a couple of good performances from Andrew Luck (29), Roddy White (13), and the Texans D/ST (13) to go along with a lot of margainal performances. But really all he needed were those first guys to easily put this matchup to sleep. Taking a look at the bench, John could've started Stafford over Foles and Terrance Williams over Cordarelle Patterson and he would've won 90-88. But instead he got crushed, for the second straight week, and now falls to 2-2. On Zach's side, there were a few players that scored a couple more points than a starter at thier position but nothing that really stands out. In the end, the Rolling Meadows Mustangs are 4-0 and looking in good shape to defend their title.

I forgot Asiata was on the Utah team that beat Alabama
Smokin Blounts N Drinkin Fortes  99
Wisconsin ArcticCats  90

Tom didn't score 57 points this week! In fact, fresh off his fantasy baseball championship (congrats by the way), he picked up the closest win of the week in a matchup that came down to last night's game. Gunnar needed 11 points from Stephan Gostowski last night to tie Tom, but unfrotunetly for him the Patriots got killed last night and didnt even attempt a field goal. Tom got huge games from Matt Asiata (27) and Matt Forte (16) to go along with a solid performance from Martellus Bennett (13). There were only two players on the roster that didn't live up to their projections this week, Dan Carpenter (5) and Brandin Cooks (3). This was also a very impressive win for Tom since many of his normal starters were on bye. When you look at Gunnars roster, it's hard to believe he lost this week. Gunnar had three outstanding performers this week with Aaron Rodgers (28) Randall Cobb (23) Antonio Brown (25). Those three alone put up 76 points, so how the hell did Gunnar's team possibly lose this week? Negative 7 points from the Panthers D/ST is a good place to start. The negative 7 points took away the total of 7 points combined from Stevan Jackson (5) and Stephan Gostowski (2). Gunnar also started Bernard Pierce who didn't even see the field on Sunday due to the Ravens being careful with his injury. So the only additional points to the 76 put up by the big 3 for Gunnar came from Antonio Gates (3) and Ahmad Bradshaw (11). I feel like Gunnar should probably get some kind of reward for finding a way to lose, even when he had three of the highest scoring players on his team. Taking a look at the benchs, there are many players Gunnar could have started that would have given him the win (Victor Cruz, Trent Richardson, Golden Tate). As I mentioned earlier Smokin Blounts N Drink Fortes' bench was wiped out with bye week players outside of Justin Forsett, who had a good 15 points week, and Pierre Thomas (1).

F U Dr. Panda!
Team Mustangs  86
Kalamazoo Red Hawks  28

I mentioned in the first post of the year that last season the Red Hawks had some trouble fielding a starting lineup of 9 players who weren't on bye or injured. Well, it looks like its happening again. Despite talking to Chris a couple times last week, he still didn't switch out his lineup which meant leaving 4 bye players in the lineup. On top of that, Chris's had a nice -5 spot at the defensive positon from the Patriots, which as I said was a trend this week. Looking at the bench, Chris could have put in the best guys he had and still only put up 57 points (he doesn't have a backup quarterback so that spot would still be empty). Chris if your reading this you need to get your shit figured out, this is unacceptable! Team Mustangs, who could've won this game with only two players, had an easy win this weekend. T's Mustangs had six guys score in double digits this week but also had a shitty defensive effort, Saints D/ST (-6). I don't know what the deal was with defenses this week but that's the third substantial negative outing I've seen so far through 3 games. Tony Romo was left on the bench this week for T, despite the fact that he could've nearly beat the Red Hawks by himself. Overall this game makes me mad becasue it's not that hard to switch up a lineup, it takes 30 seconds. I can understand if it is one guy but not half of the team. This better not happen again Christopher...

This is for you Jason!
Show Me Them TD's  116
Multiple Scoregasms  85

So yesterday I picked some fun at Jason and now I get to do it again. This is the 6th straight victory for me over Jason, going all the way back to week 4 of the 2011 season (Jason beat me 111-68 that week). In fact I am 8-1 against Jason in the regualr season since this league was created in 2010, however I am 0-1 agaisnt him when it counts (I lost the championship to him in 2010). Anyway back to this year, my team had a great game. Six of my nine starters scored in double digits lead by Jordy Nelson's 22 points. The worst performance on my team was Marques Colston with 5 points which isn't good but it's not terrible. Jason had four double digit outings, including a 25 point standout performance for Steve Smith Sr. against his old team. Unfortunetly for Jason though, he got a 0 spot from DeSean Jackson and only 5 points from Reggie Bush who looks to be losing his job to Joique Bell. Both Jason and myself had a player on the bench that would've improved our overall scores but it wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome. This win for me keeps me only two games back of Zach for first place in the division, while Jason now falls 3 games back. However, it's still early and a lot could happen between now and the end of the season.

Baghdad Bombers  137
MeAndJulioDown ByTheSchoolYard  70

Your welcome Josh! Last week I sent Phillip Rivers and Frank Gore to Josh and combined they put up 49 points to help buiry Louie. The 137 point performance was by the best output of the season, topping John's 132 point performance from week 1. Also, the 67 point spread between the teams was the largest of the season, a mark that was held by myself when I beat Josh's Bombers in week 2 by 63 points. This week was obviously a different story for Josh as his Bombers had 6 players in double digits (3 in the 20's) and out of the 3 players in single digits, the 8 by Fred Jackson was the lowest. Josh played all the right guys this week as his bench didn't do much at all (beside the 11 points from Doug Martin). For Louie's team, the Dolphins D/ST had a big week. In fact, this game actually broke away from the norm of the week as both teams had defenses that scored in the double digits. Outside of that, MAJD BTSY had a good performance from DeAndre Hopkins (12) and had a good game going with Cutler in the first half before he started throwing picks. What brought Louie down was that he had five players that scored 5 points or less. On his bench, Knile Davis had a decent game but it wouldn't have put Louie in the same area code as Josh. Louie got schooled down by the school yard this week.
